Astrology and astrological practices are very common in Nepal. Nepal is a Hindu majority country therefore Jyotishshastra (Vedic astrology) has deep influence in the country. Jyotish shastra is the ancient Astro-science developed in Bharat varsa (Indian subcontinent) which studies and explains the motion and position of planets and their effects on human life.
The Jyotishshastra has two divisions
Ganit Jyotish: Mathematics and study of planetary position and astronomy
Falit Jyotish: Prediction based on planetary position

The Lagna chart has 12 houses and each house has different features. The numbers in the houses represent different zodiac sign and the lord of the sign is the owner of the particular house.

There are two more planets which are also known as shadow planets. These planets are Rahu and Ketu. Five planets Mars, Venus, Jupiter, Mercury and Saturn are the lord of two zodiac sign, sun and moon have one zodiac sign for each and Rahu and Ketu do not have lordship.
