Places in Pokhara you have to visit

Pokhara is a tourist capital of Nepal. The city located about 200 km west from Kathmandu is a destination for all sorts of tourists. Locating on an elevation of below 1000 meters above sea level, the Pokhara city provides you with the stunning view of the Himalayas having elevation above 8000 meters which is very uncommon in other parts of the world. There are many sites you can visit in Pokhara, here is the list of sites you have to visit when you are in Pokhara:

Phewa Lake

Phewa, the largest lake in Pokhara valley is the freshwater lake situated in the southern part of Valley. The lake is the most visited lake of Nepal and almost all tourists who visit Pokhara have visited this lake. You can enjoy the stunning reflection of Mt. Machhapuchere and other mountains in the clear water of Phewa lake. You can also hire and sail a boat through the lake, visit Tal Barahi Temple which is located on an island in the lake and enjoy the panoramic view of Himalayas. This beautiful lake is also a perfect place for the wonderful view of sunrise.

Devis fall

Devi’s fall is an underground waterfall situated about 2 km south-west from Pokhara Airport. It is also known as Patale Chhango in Nepali which means underworld waterfall.  It was named as Davi’s fall after the Swiss couple who went swimming but the women drowned because of overflow. 

Gupteshhwor Mahadev Cave

Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave is one of the longest cave of Nepal located close to Davi’s falls. The cave was discovered in the 16th century. The water of Davi’s fall passes through this cave. There is a temple of Lord Shiva inside the cave. Photography of the temple is strictly prohibited.

World Peace Pagoda

World Peace Pagoda is located on Anadu Hill at an elevation of 1100m above sea level. The Pagoda was constructed in 1973 as a symbol of peace. The 115 feet tall Stupa is first world peace Pagoda in Nepal and 71st Pagoda in the world built by Nipponzan Myohoji. The hilltop provides the breathtaking view of the Himalayan range, The Phewa lake and the Pokhara city.

Sarangkot

Sarangkot, located in the west of Pokhara is one of the best paragliding locations in the world. The hill offers a beautiful view of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Manaslu range. You can also enjoy Sunrise and Sunset along with the view of Pokhara city and Phewa lake. Activities you can do in Sarangkot are; Paragliding, zipline, Hiking and have a taste of local food.

International Mountain Museum

International Mountain Museum,  located in Ghari Patan Pokhara was officially opened on February  5, 2004, as only  Mountain Museum in the world. The Museum exhibits the record of successful eight-thousander, History, culture, geology and flora and fauna of the Himalayas.

Mahendra Cave

Mahendra Cave is the large limestone cave located in Batulechour, Pokhara. The cave was discovered in the late 1950s by the local shepherd and named after King Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah. Thousands of tourists visit this cave every year. There is a statue of Lord Shiva inside the cave.

Bat cave

Bat Cave, Known for a habitat of Horseshoe Bat is a U-shaped cave located in Pokhara nearby Mahendra cave.  The limestone cave is surrounded by forest and has normal entrance but exit is very narrow and climbing is needed.
